AEW Star Teases Return At Forbidden Door After Over A Year Away? AEW

An absent AEW star appears to have teased a return for Forbidden Door, after over a year away from the ring.

Eddie Kingston hasn’t wrestled since losing the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship to Gabe Kidd in a No Ropes Last Man Standing match at the May 2024 NJPW STRONG Resurgence event.

It was during this bout that Kingston suffered a leg injury, leading to him having surgery that July.

With Kingston recently confirming that he had returned to in-ring training, the former AEW Continental Champion has shared an intriguing post ahead of the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

Kingston took to Instagram on August 23 – one day before Forbidden Door 2025 – to share a photo of himself backstage at Forbidden Door 2022.

The photo – which you can view below or at this link – was taken by Beyond Gorilla, and features the main graphic for the event, which took place on June 26, 2022 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

This has fuelled speculation that Kingston could make a surprise appearance at the August 24 Forbidden Door event.

Eddie Kingston was in six-man tag-team action on this show, teaming with Shota Umino and Wheeler Yuta in a losing effort against Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara & Minoru Suzuki.

Kingston addressed his status for Forbidden Door 2025 during a video with Cezar Bononi which was shared on August 8, noting that it was looking like he was going to miss Forbidden Door, but adding:

“Hopefully, this comes out and I’m wrong and I’m actually at Forbidden Door fighting somebody.”

While he last wrestled in May 2024, Kingston hasn’t wrestled for AEW since that April’s Dynasty pay-per-view, where he teamed with Adam Copeland and Mark Briscoe in a losing effort against Malakai Black, Brody King and Buddy Matthews.
