Former AEW Star’s Backstage Role For Return Confirmed AEW

QT Marshall is making a return to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in a backstage capacity after only recent leaving the company.

With his AEW contract expiring on January 1, 2024, it was reported that Marshall had wanted to be utilized as a more prominent wrestler along with his backstage role.

On February 14, it was reported that issues between Marshall and AEW had been resolved and he would be “coming back in the VP role that he once held”.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio has now revealed further details of the relationship between Marshall and AEW, saying:

“I don’t know if he’s back yet, but he’s gonna be starting back.

“Rocky Romero’s role is gonna be talent development, so essentially training wrestlers and working with the younger talent, and also international liaison obviously with New Japan and CMLL.

“And QT, his key role is going to be talent development as well. Trainer and everything like that.

“He left (on) December 31 and Tony Khan said, if he wants to come back, the door’s open, and I guess he wanted to come back.

“I know that the idea was he wanted to make it as a main event wrestler.

“He worked a bunch of indies, but he can still work those indies if he’s coming back for that job. So, starting up soon.”

Tony Khan had previously praised QT Marshall, calling him a “very talented person” with a “great mind for wrestling”.

Rocky Romero joined AEW in a “front office” role earlier this week, having acted as the liaison between AEW and a number of other companies, including NJPW, previously.

At the time of the previous report, it wasn’t clear what role Romero would be taking, with Meltzer now stating it would be “talent development” focused, although it is unclear whether he will serve in an executive capacity.
