The real reason for Saraya choosing AEW over WWE has now been revealed. More at this link.
Details have emerged on a WWE offer which Saraya turned down before signing with AEW.
Saraya became a free-agent in July, after WWE chose not to renew her contract. She made her AEW debut at Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 21, following speculation about her status.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis were the executives who chose not to renew the former Diva’s Champion’s deal.
Both names are notably no longer with WWE, with Vince McMahon notably retiring in late July, and Laurinaitis finishing up with WWE in August.
The report revealed that the new WWE regime reached out to Saraya while she was a free agent, offering her an onscreen General Manager role. Saraya notably acted as the SmackDown GM following her in-ring retirement in 2018.
‘Higher-ups’ also reportedly told Saraya that if she wanted to return to the ring, they’d ‘make that happen’.
Fightful noted that it has been indicated that there’s a positive relationship between Saraya and the new WWE regime, with Triple H reportedly ‘shocked’ that the previous WWE management team chose to let Saraya’s deal expire.
Amid speculation about a potential in-ring return, Saraya has addressed criticisms of the AEW physician who has cleared her to take bumps.
