A top AEW star has explained the darkest period of her life.
At AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam 2022, Saraya, formerly known as Paige in WWE, made her debut for the company. This marked her return to professional wrestling for the first time in 5 years when she suffered a career ending neck injury.
Since then, the former Paige has been one of the mainstays of the AEW women’s division, winning the AEW Women’s World Championship in her home country of England at AEW All In London.
Appearing on The Cruz Show Podcast, Saraya explained how the injury mixed with her lifestyle created a toxic combination that led to the darkest period of her life. She said:
“It was about 6 or 7 years ago and I had the tapes come out. Like I had this revenge porn put out on me and I was addicted to coke and pills and I drank a lot, so that was like my lowest, lowest point and I felt like I couldn’t go out in public and everyone was making fun of me and roasting me…”
“I was surrounded by people that weren’t good for me, weren’t healthy, wasn’t in the best relationship at the time, didn’t have the group of friends that I have now and so it was really, really rough.”
Saraya lost the AEW Women’s World Championship to Hikaru Shida last month on AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday.
