AEW Star Reacts To WWE & UFC Merging To Form TKO WWE, UFC

A current AEW star has commented on WWE’s merger with the UFC under the new company TKO Group Holdings.

Speaking on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy had praise for Vince McMahon, saying it was fitting that he was still in charge by the time the company deal with Endeavor was done.

Hardy said:

“Vince McMahon had a hell of a run, you can’t deny that. And, it’s so appropriate knowing and working so closely as I did with Vince — the fact that he ended up selling the company and leaving on top, where no one will ever get the opportunity to make World Wrestling Entertainment, as far as a sole owner, better than him, was just apropos.”

As far as what the future holds for WWE now that it’s under the same umbrella as UFC, Hardy thinks the possibilities are “very exciting”, however, similarly to UFC CEO Dana White, does not see the merger causing much crossover between the two companies’ fan bases.

Hardy continued:

“I don’t think you’re gonna have a lot of UFC and shoot fighting fans really just jump over to wrestling just because it’s owned by the same company.

“I also don’t think people that enjoy the pageantry and fantastical world of pro wrestling are going to jump to UFC.

“Although I do think they’re both such extreme sports and entertainment — I think there’ll be some great promotion you can do with them together.”

While it’s unclear what – if any – effect the merger will have on WWE’s product right now, we now have a better idea of how the company’s creative may look to operate going forward, specifically regarding the role of Vince McMahon, which you can read more about here.

Elsewhere, WWE CEO Nick Khan recently discussed the possibility of WWE and UFC hosting ‘all-star weekends’ featuring events from both companies – click here for full details.
