AEW Stars Make History With Championship Win

A pair of AEW stars have made history following a championship win in another promotion.

The IInspiration (Cassie Lee & Jessie McKay) have been an ever-present within the women’s tag team scene since first forming their team in WWE NXT back in 2015.

Their run as a team has seen them capture the tag team gold several times over in WWE and TNA, but now they’ve added another accolade to their résumés.

Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling’s Grand Princess 26 event took place in Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 29, and among the card was a Princess Tag Team Title match between the reigning champions Ober Eats (Wakana Uehara & Yuki Kamifuku) and The IInspiration.

It what was also just Lee and McKay’s second match in TJPW, the Australian duo pulled off the win, which in turn means they are the only tag team to have held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, TNA Knockout’s Tag Team Titles and Princess Tag Team Titles.

In reaction to their history-making achievement, both Lee and McKay took to Twitter to comment, with Lee writing:

Jessie McKay would echo Lee’s comments, posting:

Could The AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles Be Next?

While The IInspiration have made history with their Princess Tag Team Championship win, they could set another record in AEW should they become AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions.

With only the Babes of Wrath (Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale) and current champions the Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne & Lena Kross) holding the AEW Women’s Tag Titles thus far, no team has yet held AEW, WWE and TNA women’s tag team gold.

It remains to be seen whether The IInspiration will reach that goal, with some fans questioning how well they’ll fair in AEW after they lost their AEW TV debut to The Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter & Alex Windsor) within just two minutes on March 4.

While that seemingly painted a bleak picture of their future success, The IInspiration have since followed up that loss with their first win in Ring of Honor, and now with added momentum on their side following their Grand Princess 26 win, perhaps they could go on to find great success in AEW.

One Less Team In The AEW Women’s Tag Team Title Picture

Not long before The IInspiration was in Tokyo winning gold, AEW hosted Collision from Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 28.

During the show, inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions the Babes of Wrath amicably went their separate ways, with both Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron shifting their focus to singles competition.

This leaves one less prominent team in the AEW Women’s Tag Team Title picture, something that could potentially leave a space for The IInspiration to slot in.
