A WWE star has now officially lost their championship that they held in another promotion prior to their WWE return.

Back on the July 10 episode of SmackDown, former WWE star Baron Corbin made his return to the company after almost two years away, interrupting a United States Championship match between Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams.

Corbin’s first match back took place at WWE SummerSlam, when he would defeat Trick to capture the United States Championship for the second time in his career.

Baron Corbin Loses MLW World Tag Team Championship

Before his return to WWE, Corbin was competing in MLW as Bishop Dyer, where he and Donovan Dijak teamed as the Skyscrapers and reigned as MLW World Tag Team Champions.

Following rumors of Corbin’s WWE return, MLW would strip him of the titles, with Djiak replacing him in Skyscrapers with Josh Bishop.

However, Dyer would return to the promotion, with him regaining the Tag Team Championship to defend it alongside Dijak against the Good Brothers on an episode of MLW Fusion that aired tonight.

Corbin would lose the match for his team, losing the MLW World Tag Team Championship in what will ultimately be his final match in MLW following his WWE return.

The Skyscrapers To One Day Reunite In WWE?

WWE’s tag team division has not been a key focal point of the company in a long time, but a lot of fans continue to want to see the company focus on the divisions once more.

While Baron Corbin’s return adds a credible name to SmackDown’s midcard, the midcard on SmackDown is already full of talented stars, while the tag team division remains baron even after the recent WWE Tag Team Championship change.

Djiak never got a fair shake on WWE’s main roster after he was called back up in the 2024 WWE Draft, with him not even making a single appearance on Raw after an impressive NXT stint.

If WWE wants to revive it’s tag team divisions, bringing Dijak back to the company to team with Corbin on SmackDown would add a great new duo to the division, who could have class encounters with the likes of Fraxiom and the War Raiders.

Alternatively, WWE could pair Corbin back up with Bron Breakker when he leaves the Vision to revive the popular Wolf Dogs team.
