Here’s what happened when Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi challenged for the WWE World Tag Team Championship after SmackDown went off the air.

A dark match announcement recently got fans talking, with WWE announcing that Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi would challenge for The Vision’s World Tag Team Championship during the August 14 SmackDown taping.

This match took place following Friday’s live broadcast ending, with Rhodes and Femi facing off against Bron Breakker and Austin Theory in a non-televised match.

As can be seen in footage below this news story shared by Matt Kempke, majority of the match saw Cody Rhodes and Austin Theory facing off.

Once Oba Femi entered following a hot tag, he took out Theory, then rolled him into the corner, challenging Bron Breakker to tag himself in.

Following Femi and Breakker leveling each other, Cody Rhodes – who was tagged in during the chaos – attempted to hit a Cross Rhodes on Theory.

This was when Maxxine Dupri entered the ring and dropped Rhodes with a low blow, leading to the World Tag Team Champions’ disqualification, and technical retention of the title.

Theory and Breakker attempted to beat Rhodes down, but Breakker was disposed of by Oba Femi. Rhodes and Femi then double-teamed Austin Theory, before standing tall together.

With this being a non-televised title match, it would’ve been quite surprising to see a clean finish. With Rhodes and Femi being two of WWE’s top babyfaces, it wouldn’t make sense to halt their momentum with a loss.

Equally, while not unheard of, it wouldn’t have made much sense to have such a big title change take place in front of a live crowd and their cameras, instead of on a WWE broadcast.

This is the second time Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi have shared the ring in a match without a definitive ending, with the duo’s match at the December 13, 2025 Saturday Night’s Main Event ending in a no-contest following Drew McIntyre’s interference.

It would be interesting to see Rhodes and Femi form an official tag-team, however it appears that Rhodes is busy in the SmackDown singles division, with this week’s show going off the air with him brawling with Randy Orton.

The Viper made his WWE return at SummerSlam, attacking Rhodes to cost him his WWE Championship match against CM Punk. At the same event, Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in their Hell in a Cell main event.
