Current WWE Champion Set For Upcoming Match In Another Promotion

A current WWE champion is set to compete in an upcoming match for another promotion that was taped prior to their return.

Back in July, Baron Corbin made his return to WWE television for the first time in almost two years since he initially departed the company.

Corbin’s contract expired at the end of 2024, with him spending the past year and a half on the independents as Bishop Dyer, primarily spending his time in MLW, where he reigned as one half of the Tag Team Champions alongside Donovan Dijak as the Skyscrapers.

Recently, MLW had written Dyer off the show due to his impending WWE return, though in recent weeks on MLW Fusion, Dyer has returned to the show, which was taped prior to his WWE return.

Baron Corbin Taped MLW Match To Air Next Week

At SummerSlam, Corbin captured the United States Championship for the second time in his career, defeating Trick Williams for the title in his first match back.

In a strange turn of events, it was announced on last night’s MLW Blood & Thunder special that on next week’s episode of MLW Fusion, the new United States Champion Baron Corbin will be in action on the show.

Corbin, as Bishop Dyer, is set to team with Donovan Dijak to defend the MLW World Tag Team Championship against the Good Brothers, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

The match was naturally taped prior to Corbin’s WWE return, and will likely be his final match in MLW.

Baron Corbin To Reunite With Bron Breakker In WWE?

Prior to his WWE departure in 2024, Baron Corbin had spent a year in NXT, with a lot of fans excited about how Corbin had reinvented his career in NXT.

Most notably, Corbin formed a popular team with Bron Breakker as the Wolf Dogs, with the pair even winning the NXT Tag Team Championship together prior to Breakker’s call up in 2024, which brought an end to the team.

Before the Wolf Dogs were able to reunite on the WWE main roster, Corbin’s contract expired and he departed the company.

However, with Corbin now back in the fold, and Breakker currently in a tag team with Austin Theory, with him hopefully set to be reheated in the near future with his rivalry with Oba Femi, we could one day see the Wolf Dogs back together on Raw or SmackDown.
