Baron Corbin Opens Up About Getting ‘Another Chance’ In WWE After United States Title Win

Baron Corbin has opened up about his WWE return after winning the United States Championship at SummerSlam 2026.

Having parted ways with WWE after his contract expired and wasn’t renewed back in November 2024, Baron Corbin would return to the company in July of this year.

Getting into the United States Championship picture with an attack on Trick Williams and his opponent, Carmelo Hayes, Corbin would secure the title at SummerSlam.

With a victory over Williams at SummerSlam, Corbin reflected on his return to the company and the start of his second reign as United States Champion during an appearance on WWE Now, saying:

“It’s been a crazy day. This is what I’ve done for a long time, right? Like 14-15 years now total, and today felt like my first day. It was weird. The air, the excitement, the nerves, at one point our producer was talking to us, and I was like, ‘I need a minute to drink some water because I feel like I’m gonna vomit.’

“It’s so amazing to get back and get another chance, and you go, ‘Alright, I only have so many years of an opportunity left. So it’s just like the excitement, getting back and being like I need to reset everything everyone thinks about me, and I had that year and a half away where I think they forgot about a lot of it.

“My time off I was busy killing people in Jiu-Jitsu, choking them, snapping arms, taking heads whatever it was; really sharpening my skills for physicality to get back to what I do and what I did originally when I came in as the Lone Wolf, it was like no friends, I’m whooping everybody’s ass that gets in my way. And that’s where I had the most success, that’s where I had a US Championship, that’s where I won the Andre (The Giant Battle Royal), that’s where I won Money in the Bank was that attitude.

“I’m going ‘I gotta go find that.’ And that year and a half away, I was able to find that; I was able to weed out all the s**t in my life that I didn’t need. Forget the cars, forget whatever it is. What do I do best? I fight. That’s what I do. So when I got the call to potentially come back, I was going, alright, I’m gonna hurt everybody they set in front of me – every single person – good guy, bad guy, friend, foe, doesn’t matter, I’m gonna hurt them… This is what I’m good at, I’m good at just fighting.

“So I weeded out all that other stuff, and I came back on a mission, and in three weeks I accomplished this (United States Title win) at SummerSlam in front of 40,000 people.”

The real-life Tom Pestock secured a number of Jiu-Jitsu championship with the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Jiu Jitsu World League between 2023 and last year. He competed in the IBJJF Tampa International Open in consecutive years, winning double gold at the Tampa International Open.

The End Of Days For Baron Corbin

When Baron Corbin parted ways with WWE back in November 2024, it was one of those decisions that raised eyebrows among some fans. Having signed his first contract in August 2012, Corbin was a star who had seen developmental, the main roster and returned to the “new” era of NXT before exiting the company after his contract expired.

A veteran of the WWE system, Corbin held the NXT Tag Team Championship (with Bron Breakker) shortly before his departure, having been a United States Champion and the King of the Ring Winner back in 2019. He may not have held world championships, but he was a star that was positioned prominently on television and, as was seen with his alliance with Breakker, had the ability to enhance future stars without diminishing his own exposure.

Leaving WWE, it was far from the end of days for the star, as he took his talents to the independent scene, being reborn as Bishop Dyer and even competing in a dark match back in January of this year for AEW.

Arguably a valuable asset, with a renewed sense of intensity born of his time away from WWE, Corbin will hopefully have the sort of run with the United States Championship that will not only elevate that title, but also his own standing.
