WWE Star Reflects On ‘Impossibly Perfect’ Chain Of Events Leading To SummerSlam Win

Chad Gable has looked at his journey from injury to a return, leading to capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.

In his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Chad Gable captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career, defeating Penta at SummerSlam on August 2.

Having returned from injury earlier this year at the Royal Rumble, Gable reflected on the journey that has brought him to the championship.

Speaking on WWE Now, Gable reflected on the “impossibly perfect” chain of events that has seen him become champion, saying:

“It’s insane to say and see how all these circumstances that happened, and all the things, the injuries, everything played out in a way that actually worked out impossibly perfect.

“You can’t hardly write stuff like this, it’s too perfect. It’s weird and I don’t know who to thank, I thank God, I thank everybody. It’s incredible, man.”

Gable would also address his time on the sidelines, with Sam Roberts asking how he felt seeing the El Grande Americano persona change hands due to his injury and whether he felt he wouldn’t have anything to come back to, stating:

“No. It was frustrating, but it wasn’t like that. It was fuel. It was fuel to the fire because I knew I was coming back.

“I mean, there was scary thoughts going on in my head about how dangerous I was going to be when I came back. So, I knew I was going to be a force, and all it did was say, ‘Brother, you’re in trouble, man, stealing my stuff and trying to make it your own’ and not only that but being awesome at it, to his credit. He took it and ran with it to a degree that maybe nobody else I can think of would have.

“It was that that made the magic. It was competitive fire and spirit that doesn’t exist often, but when you find it, it’s like lightning in a bottle. It’s two guys trying to best each other, competitively, professionally and personally. Everything, it was all on the line and you saw what happens when that happens.”

A former NXT Tag Team Champion, Gable would continue to have championship success on the main roster, being a former SmackDown and Raw Tag Team Champion.

When it comes to singles titles, however, the WWE Speed Championship would be the only one to grace him in a career that started back in late 2013.

A solid hand throughout his career, AEW’s Dax Harwood had previously stated that he felt that Gable was the “most underrated wrestler in the world right now”, a sentiment no doubt shared by many who had seen the work of the Olympic athlete.

Clearly, his success in AAA, particularly in the mask vs. mask match that was produced by Pete Dunne, has given the star the opportunity he needs to take the next step in WWE, holding his first singles championship (Speed aside) and one that is seen as a step towards a World Championship reign.

Gable is well aware of where he wants his career to go, noting that he wants to be “the guy” in WWE, something that may be easier to achieve with a prominent championship around his waist.
