‘Why Did It Take So Long For Others To See!’ – Former WWE Writer Reacts To Chelsea Green SummerSlam 2026 Title Win

Former WWE names, including a past member of creative, have reacted to Chelsea Green’s victory at SummerSlam 2026.

Night Two of SummerSlam saw Chelsea Green become the Interim WWE Women’s Champion, having defeated Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton in a five-way ladder match.

The victory comes off the back of a set of qualifiers for said ladder match to determine an interim champion due to Rhea Ripley’s injury, which sees her unable to compete.

Former WWE SmackDown co-head writer Brian “Road Dogg” James reacted to the result, questioning why it took so long for her to capture a top title, and WWE’s “top guys vision,” tweeting:

“SO CONGRATULATIONS, @ImChelseaGreen

“The hard part for me is, WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG FOR OTHERS TO SEE!

“Top guys vision’ leaves a lot of talent underutilized

“Not a knock just the truth

“Truth….. there’s another one”

Green would also comment on her victory in a post-show interview, dedicating the title to Michael Hayes, with Corey Graves stating “if you know, you know”.

Hayes has previously commented that Green’s role was “to elevate all those girls to be in that top position, to be a main eventer’. These comments followed an exchange during WWE Unreal season two that saw the higher-up state that she was not on the same level as the likes of Charlotte Flair or Tiffany Stratton.

Former member of The Secret Hervice, Alba Frye, who parted ways with WWE after her contract expired in April of this year, would also comment, tweeting:

Piper Niven, Green’s very own Slaygent P, would share her own thoughts, once again via Twitter, sharing:

“IT FEELS CORRECT! 😭

“OH CHAMPION, MY CHAMPION! 🥹❤️🫡”

Green is a two-time WWE Women’s United States Champion, being the first star to hold that title, along with being a former Women’s Tag Team Champion (with Sonya Deville & Piper Niven).

“Top Guys Vision”

During the WWE SummerSlam Night 1 post-show press conference, Triple H was asked about the “changing of the guard”when it comes to the coveted top spots in WWE.

“We’re in a period of time when there’s a lot of top performers in top spots that over time have earned those spots and over time are selling tickts and over time are incredibly popular, so you really have to do something.

“The narrative of “it’s my turn. I’ve been here for a while, it’s my turn.” There’s no turns. That’s not how it works. You’re in the spot. Believe me, if somebody is getting over more than somebody else, we move that person into the spot and move the other person down.”

Triple H would then go on to comment that a star “gets over then gets the push” before asking if anyone seeking the top spot is more popular than the likes of Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Liv Morgan or IYO SKY.

For many of the names listed by the WWE Chief Content Officer, they have held these “top spots” for quite some time, with little indication that they’ll be moved down any time soon. That said, change happens, occasionally due to unfortunate circumstances, as has been the case with Rhea Ripley, a top star who has been sidelined through injury.

For Chelsea Green, “WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG FOR OTHERS TO SEE!” is arguably a valid statement, with the star doing much to get over and “maximising her minutes“, according to Matt Cardona.

The top may seem to be the unassailable summit of the WWE mountain, but, if Triple H is to be believed, there is opportunity to reach that peak through popularity.
