WWE star Matt Cardona has heaped praise on his wife Chelsea Green for making the most of her time on television.
Previously known as Zack Ryder, Matt Cardona officially signed with WWE in January of this year, three years after his real-life wife, Chelsea Green, made return at the 2023 Royal Rumble.
During a recent interview with SI’s The Takedown, Cardona would name Green as his favorite wrestler, going on to reveal what she does that is so impressive, saying:
“She maximizes her minutes. Whether she’s got a two-minute match on TV or a five-second backstage segment, she does whatever it takes to get noticed.
“You’ve got to be your own advocate. You’ve got to be self-promoting, and you’ve got to get yourself over.
“She’s so good at it, and anybody can follow that example. If you’re on TV for five seconds, how are you going to make it about you? You want to play along and tell the big story, sure, but if you want to make it to the next level, you’ve got to be a star. You’ve got to carry yourself like one.”
Earlier this year, Green demonstrated her ability to maximize those minutes while suffering from a foot injury. On WWE SmackDown, the fans would chant “we want Chelsea”, while the star was in a wheelchair, reacting to their calls by saying she’s “literally disabled” before calling them “disrespectful for her feelings.”

Chelsea Green: The Modern Diva
Former WWE Women’s Champion recently commented that Chelsea Green reminds her of a Divas Era star.
The comparison is a valid one, with Green embodying the brash and bold attitude of the Divas Era, while performing at a level that is very much in line with what fans expect from WWE’s modern women’s roster.
This isn’t to say that stars of the Divas Era couldn’t work, but that time was limited for them to really showcase that what they could do. It was something that The Miz touched upon when praising the career of his real-life wife, Maryse.
WWE has moved away from the titillation that punctuated much of the Divas Era, with the women’s roster now positioned much more prominently across programming. Further to this, there’s now more opportunity than ever for the division to shine, with Green having been the first star to hold the Women’s United States Championship, a title added in 2024 alongside the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Room still exists for some of the more acceptable sides of the Divas Era to play out on modern WWE programming, with Green being a prime example of the bridge between both periods of history.
