When it comes to current stars that have caught former WWE Women’s Champion Layla’s eye, Chelsea Green is among them.
A former WWE Divas Champion and the final WWE Women’s Champion, Layla parted ways with the company back in 2015, although has previously commented on a potential LayCool reunion with Michelle McCool.
While that reunion is yet to emerge, the star was recently asked about the current WWE women’s roster stars who catch her eye during an interview with Denise Salcedo.
Chelsea Green was among the names, alongside Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Rhea Ripley, with the former WWE star saying:
“I love Chelsea Green, love her. She reminds me of the Diva era. You know when you can just see someone willing to do anything for the business, she just goes out there and entertains.
“Charlotte Flair is phenomenal. Becky Lynch is phenomenal. Naomi… I’m trying to think, who else that goes right now… Even Rhea Ripley, she’s a flipping superstar.
“All of them, I’m in awe of all the women right now. I’m so happy for the evolution of women’s wrestling. I’m a supporter, and just happy to watch women’s wrestling progress, and in the next five, ten years, I just can’t wait to see it.”

The final match of Layla’s career would take place on the WWE Live SummerSlam Heatwave Tour in July 2015, with the star leaving with a loss to Paige, who returned to the company at WrestleMania 42 in April of this year.
A Product Of Its Time
The Divas Era of WWE was very much a product of its time, with The Miz recently praising his real-life wife Maryse for being able to do what she did with the scant screen time women’s matches got during that period.
While some stars, such as Paige, AJ Lee and The Bella Twins, among others, were able to carve out a niche in WWE, it was a time when short matches and occasionally humiliating storylines were the order of the day, such as the ‘Piggy James’ angle, bikini matches, and wrestling matches featuring mud.
Replaced by the Women’s Revolution that saw an end to the type of matches that had focused on aesthetic over ability, the Divas era is still remembered fondly by some, with Maxxine Dupri having suggested that she feels there’s still room for it on the modern roster.
The modern era of WWE may have moved away from the period to an era that showcases women as top stars, yet the memories of Total Divas still lives on, with The Bella Twins recently considering whether they’d appear on a hypothetical reboot of the scripted reality TV series.
Arguably, Chelsea Green, along with Dupri, would be shoo-ins for a potential throwback Divas-style feud, perhaps when WWE Raw reaaches its next milestone as a weekly episodic series.
