Eric André came under attack at the hands of Jacob Fatu on WWE Raw, and a new report has revealed the segment was as a promotional tie-in for an upcoming John Cena movie.

It’s a busy time for comedian and actor Eric André when it comes to upcoming movies featuring WWE stars.

June 26 marks the Netflix premier of André’s movie Little Brother, starring alongside John Cena, with the comedian’s recent appearance on WWE Raw being tied to the promotion of this project, according to PWInsider.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider wrote:

“One of the reasons WWE did the angle with Eric Andre last night is he co-stars with John Cena in the new Netflix comedy Little Brother, which will begin streaming on 6/26: So, it was a promotional tie-in deal.”

The June 15 episode of WWE Raw saw Jacob Fatu, under the direction of Roman Reigns, deliver a splash on André, with The Samoan Werewolf having been less than impressed by the comedian touching his newly-earned Ula Fala.

Dragging André into the ring, officials would be unable to quell the urges of Fatu, with Reigns seemingly stepping in, only to demand that the Bloodline member deliver a splash, calling for a second moments later.

Reigns and André will also share the big screen, with the WWE star having been cast as Akuma and the comedian as Don Sauvage in the live-action movie Street Fighter, due for release this October.

The Next Celebrity Star To Step Into The WWE Ring?

With WWE and Netflix very much in a multi-year partnership, it’s entirely possible that Eric André could follow in the footsteps of other mainstream celebrities, stepping into the ring.

Recent years have seen Bad Bunny move from the music world to successful in-ring appearances in WWE, with hopes for a return. Snoop Dogg is also no stranger to the squared circle, competing at WrestleMania 39 in 2023 and seeing a victory over The Miz.

Mainstream media exposure is a recurring goal for WWE, with celebrity crossovers likely to attract a wider audience through recognition of stars from other arenas. Whether it be Joe Jonas performing the Star Spangled Banner at WrestleMania 42 or the actor Stephen Amell stepping into the ring back in 2015, there’s a desire to work with names that could expose WWE to a bigger audience who may not particularly follow the on-screen product.

Involvement in an on-screen moment doesn’t always lead to a match, but it might be a missed opportunity if the recent attack at the hands of The Bloodline isn’t followed up, with André involved in some capacity.
