WWE
WWE has filed two trademark applications for the term Human Monies, a phrase that is closely associated with Danhausen.
The cost of being cursed (or uncursed, as the case may be), Danhausen has often been heard asking for “human monies” from anyone who may seek his services.
Such has been the success of Danhausen’s curse business that the New York Knicks were able to make an epic comeback in the NBA final, and the Stanley Cup saw the Carolina Hurricanes victorious.
Seeing the value in ‘human monies’, WWE has filed two trademark applications for the term with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Under serial number 99889164, the trademark application for “Human Monies” covers the following goods and services category:
IC 016: Posters; printed event and competition programs; photographs; postcards; trading cards; stickers; books and printed instructional and teaching manuals in the field of physical training, exercise, mixed martial arts and sports; decals and decorative decals for vehicle windows;
bumper stickers; cardboard and paper hangtags; cardboard packaging; paper packaging; packaging, namely blister cards; paper for wrapping and packaging; collector albums for sticker collectables; sticker albums; collectable photos; photo albums; framed pictures;
labels, namely printed paper labels; paper place mats, paper table mats, paper napkins; paper tablecloths; paper table linens; paper lunch bags; greeting cards; pictures; calendars; temporary tattoo transfers; brochures, magazines and newspapers concerning sports; coloring books;
children’s activity books; souvenir programs concerning sports entertainment; books concerning sports entertainment; books featuring pictorial biographies; comic books; picture books; book covers; paper book markers; notebooks; memo pads; note pads; date books; address books;
agenda books; pens; pencils; pencil cases; rubber stamps; stamp pads; chalks; paper banners; printed paper signs for doors; paper party bags; stationery; indoor ornaments of paper.
A separate application under serial number 99889174 covers the goods and services category of:
IC 025: Clothing, namely, tops, shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies; outerwear, namely, coats; bottoms, pants, shorts, underwear, dresses, pajamas, lingerie, clothing ties, scarves, gloves, swimwear;
Halloween and masquerade costumes; footwear, namely, shoes, sneakers, slippers, flip flops, boots; headwear, namely, hats, caps; wrist bands; bandanas; championship trophy belts.
Both applications were filed on June 16 and are ” awaiting assignment to an examining attorney” at the time of writing.
Merchandise Is A Benchmark Of WWE Success
Debuting at Elimination Chamber in February of this year, it would be subsequently reported that Danhausen’s merchandise sales has “pleasantly surprised” those behind-the-scenes in WWE.
As that report notes, Danhausen stated his shirt was a top seller on WWE Shop, mere days after he made his first appearance.
Fan popularity and merch sales are clearly closely linked, with WWE no doubt seeking to further monetize the star, should the “Human Monies” trademark application translate into even a small number of the categories covered by both filings.
Danhausen’s first shirt as a WWE star was designed by John P Golden, who was responsible for a lot of the stars merch prior to signing with the company, providing a sense of continuity for fans who had followed the star from his independent wrestling days.
When it comes to merchandise, Danhausen recently revealed his mindset during a recent appearance at Bayley’s Lodestone all-women wrestling seminar, taking a “would I wear this?” approach to what he chooses to put his name to.
Although a regular feature on WWE television, Danhausen’s success is arguably more impressive considering the star has competed infrequently since his debut, with his last broadcast match being at Backlash with a victory over Kit Wilson & The Miz.
