The Miz has praised Maryse for finding WWE success despite limited screen time and revealed the reason some saw no chemistry between the pair.
Married since February 2014, The Miz and Maryse first met as a result of Divas Search in 2006, where she was a competitor during the first season.
Speaking to Complex, The Miz shared an insight into their early relationship together and how some in WWE believed they had no chemistry together, saying:
“You know, it’s funny. When we first started in WWE, I was the host of SmackDown and the Divas Search, and then Maryse came in through the Divas Search, that’s how we met, and they kind of put us together for two seconds, and someone told me that the talk in the meeting room was that they don’t have chemistry. And the reason being was the fact that we were trying to hide the fact that we were dating. We didn’t want anyone to know that we were dating.
“And you might be like, ‘Well, why?’ In the workplace, you want to be professional. You don’t want anyone to know certain things about your personal life. So that’s what we were doing, and then I think we were trying to keep it so much that it looked like we had no chemistry. But obviously, with the success of Miz and Mrs, with the success of everything that we were able to do with the Intercontinental Title and being together, man, every time we are on camera together, it just creates magic. It creates some sort of special moment that people talk about, that people remember. And that’s a testament to, sure me, but I tell you what, the more is Maryse.”

Exploring the success of Maryse further, The Miz would reflect upon a time when the women’s roster got scant screen time, yet had to turn it into a success, stating:
“You want to talk about people getting flowers? She never gets her flowers. She never gets the credit that she deserves. When she was a Divas Champion, a Women’s Champion in WWE. This was a time when girls got maybe a minute on TV, and you had to get your character over, get people over, get people talking, get people booing, get people cheering, get people reacting. And she was able to do that in the minute, the two minutes that she would get.
“And then moving on to Miz and Mrs and the Intercontinental Title run that we had. She was the reason Miz and Mrs came about and the success of Miz and Mrs.”

Although retired as a professional wrestler, Maryse would be seen on camera in the crowd alongside other legends of the women’s roster at WWE Evolution 2 back in July 2025 and attended this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony.
She would also renew her wedding vows with The Miz at a WWE wedding ceremony officiated by Kit Wilson ahead of WrestleMania 42, only for the happy occasion to be ruined by Danhausen, who would later stage a home invasion.
The Missed Opportunity Of Maryse
Released from her WWE contract in October 2011, Maryse would make a return at WrestleMania 33, teaming with The Miz to take on the then-husband-and-wife team of John Cena and Nikki Bella in April 2017. The following year would see Maryse take on Brie Bella, once again in a losing effort, marking her last appearance on SmackDown, before teaming up with her real-life husband once again at the September 2018 Hell In A Cell in a victory over Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella.
More recently, and keeping the theme of married couples in matches going, Maryse & The Miz would team up and lose to Beth Phoenix & Edge at the January 2022 WWE Royal Rumble, with that marking the last appearance for the two-time Divas Champion.
Brie & Nikki Bella have both made their returns to WWE, the future looks less clear for Maryse, with The Miz previously stating it could happen “if the right opportunity presents itself.”
The recent appearances in the aforementioned ceremony and home invasion may not be in-ring showings, but it does show that Maryse still has a willingness to work with WWE and, with The Miz noting her success with limited screen time previously, it would be interesting to see how she would fare with the level of exposure the current women’s roster receives.
Just as a comparison, the mixed tag at WrestleMania 33 came in at just under ten minutes, while her first Mania moment in 2009 saw her compete in a Battle Royal with twenty-five other stars in a match running to just shy of six minutes, being won by Santina Marella (Santino Marella dressed as a woman). How times have changed.
