AEW’s Christian Cage Should Be In The Hall Of Fame, Says Tommy Dreamer

Christian Cage should be in the Hall of Fame following a recent AEW match, according to TNA Wrestling’s Tommy Dreamer.

Cage and Copeland reunited on AEW television at Revolution, re-establishing themselves as a tag team, with their most recent outing seeing a victory over RPG VICE (Rocky Romero & Trent Beretta) on the April 29 episode of Dynamite.

The match saw praise from Tommy Dreamer, who noted that Cage should be Hall of Fame-bound during a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, saying:

“God, they’re still so great. And that tag match they had with RPG Vice man, watch this match. Watch how these guys work. Watch how they’re there for everything. Watch Christian, who’s got a broken arm, does something with his arm, and then he grabs it.

“Watch the innovativeness of the two older wrestlers that are still popping the houses, and they haven’t missed a beat. And you heard the people, everything they were doing was making sense. But that tag team match I really really enjoyed it for so many levels.

“For the story they told, for the psychology. And even when they won, what’s the first thing? Christian is still holding that arm; he should be in the Hall of Fame.

“It was such an enjoyable match and had the people the entire time. Tag team 101, and they were doing newer stuff, they were doing older stuff and it just worked and that crowd loved it.”

Known as Edge, Copeland was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2012, while Christian is yet to follow his tag team partner with that accolade.

They were both inducted into the Canadian Pro-Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2021, with Christian getting an individual induction last year, and Copeland seeing his in 2024.

Signed to TNA Wrestling in 2012, having parted ways with WWE in 2005, Cage is also yet to be inducted into that company’s Hall of Fame.

Era Defining, Yet Not WWE Hall Of Fame Worthy

If there were any stars that defined tag team wrestling in WWE for a whole generation, it’s The Hardy Boyz, Edge & Christian, and The Dudley Boyz, particularly thanks to their standard-setting TLC match at SummerSlam in 2000 and WrestleMania 17 the following year.

With Edge inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012, Bubba & D-Von Dudley would be inducted in 2018, leaving Matt & Jeff Hardy and Christian as the only three to remain uninducted.

In comments made in 2020, Cage would say that a WWE Hall of Fame induction isn’t something he thinks about regularly, though he’s aware that the fans do want to see it happen, and it’s a sentiment he appreciates.

It’s all seemingly been a matter of timing that has seen Cage and The Hardys not added, despite being well-regarded for their time in WWE, and going on to success in other companies, including seeing Hall of Fame inductions elsewhere.

With TNA Wrestling working in partnership with WWE, and The Hardy Boyz recently appearing at WWE World over WrestleMania week, there’s a strong chance that we could see Matt & Jeff inducted in the near future. Cage, however, likely remains a long shot while still signed to AEW, although Billy Gunn was inducted as a member of DX while under contract with Tony Khan in 2019.
