WWE/TNA Wrestling
A former TNA Wrestling World Champion is reportedly done with the company, with past reports of interest from WWE.
As previously reported, Mike Santana’s contract with TNA Wrestling was set to expire in July, with WWE having an interest in securing the star’s services.
On June 28, Santana would lose the TNA World Championship to Nic Nemeth in the main event of Slammiversary.
PWInsider has now revealed that TNA Wrestling sources have confirmed that Santana is now “finished with the company”, and was not part of the tapings for this week’s Impact, which took place in Albany, New York.
The report goes on to note that WWE’s interest in signing the star dates “back to last year”, with Santana having made a number of appearances on NXT, including challenging Trick Williams for the TNA World Championship in June of last year.
More recently, Santana teamed with OTM (Bronco Nima & Lucien Price), beating DarkState (Dion Lennox, Osiris Griffin & Shaquon Shugars) on the March 31 episode of NXT. Nima has gone on to join the rebirthed Perros Del Mal faction over in AAA.
Santana would eventually capture the World Championship from Williams at TNA Bound for Glory in October 2025, holding the title until his loss to Frankie Kazarian in November, claiming it once again in January of this year.
Next Stop, Santana
Mike Santana has had quite the journey since debuting in TNA Wrestling back in 2017 as a member of LAX, heading to AEW just two years later alongside Ortiz, a star with whom he has a somewhat fractious relationship.
Proud & Powerful may no longer be a unit, but their legacy in AEW saw Santana and Ortiz in prominent positions, allying with the Chris Jericho-led Inner Circle during their time together.
A return to TNA Wrestling gave Santana something that eluded him in AEW, becoming a two-time World Champion, having previously held the Impact World Tag Team Championship with Ortiz on four separate occasions.
Santana has previously been open about his standing in TNA Wrestling, noting that, as World Champion, he was “placed in this spot and being trusted is everything.”
It’s that level of pride in his work that Santana could very well bring to WWE, wherever he may land on the roster and it can only be hoped that his future involves championship opportunities on NXT, Raw or SmackDown.
