Title Change At WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night Two

There has been a title change during night two of the WWE SummerSlam 2026 premium live event emanating from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In his first WWE main roster premium live event match since the 2023 Royal Rumble over three and a half years ago, Baron Corbin has won title gold.

Corbin defeated Trick Williams today to win the United States Championship.

Williams had reigned as champion since he won the title from Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42 in April.

This win for Corbin marks his second reign as WWE United States Champion, with then first coming all the way back in 2017.

Carmelo Hayes Misses Out Once Again

Carmelo Hayes has missed out on both WrestleMania 42 and SummerSlam this year, and his SummerSlam absence is even more questionable than when he was absent from Mania.

Heading into WrestleMania, Hayes was instered into the feud between Trick Williams and Sami Zayn, but ultimately WWE went with Williams vs Zayn one on one despite it looking like Hayes could be added to the equation.

SummerSlam stands out even more because the feud going into it was actually Williams vs Hayes, and then Baron Corbin made his return to the company a couple of weeks ago.

And for some reason, the decision has been to drop Hayes from the equation and go with Williams vs Corbin instead – a very strange choice and one that does lead to question marks over what Triple H and WWE think of Hayes despite his in-ring acumen and the fact he’s gotten over with the fans a lot more this year.

The fact Corbin has walked out as champion does mean that at least Hayes didn’t win tonight, but there really isn’t much reason why it couldn’t have been a three-way with him winning, though WWE evidently wants to re-establish Corbin at a certain level now that he’s back.

Hopefully Corbin’s reign spins off now into a feud with Hayes, with Hayes potentially winning the title for a second time.
