With a title change at SummerSlam over the past weekend, a current WWE championship could be in for a redesign.
Night Two of WWE SummerSlam saw Trick Williams lose the United States Championship to the recently returned Baron Corbin.
During Williams’ reign, he introduced a version of the United States Championship that featured fur, something that didn’t sit well with Mark Henry.
Now in the hands of Baron Corbin, it looks like the title could be getting a fresh look, with the star commenting on his plans during the WWE Now SummerSlam Recap, saying:
“I have barely been back. We’re three weeks in, four weeks in, now I’ve got to shave a title because I don’t need all this fur on there.
“When I saw it the first time covered in fur I just said this is disrespectful as hell, and I need to take it off of him; we need to right this wrong.”

Corbin has a history with the title, having previously been a United States Champion in a history that has also seen him as NXT Tag Team Champion (with Bron Breakker) before his departure in November 2024 after his contract expired and wasn’t renewed.
Prestige Determined By Design
Not all championships are equal when it comes to how they are presented to the stars and the fans at large.
Whether it’s the butterfly design of the Divas Championship, the “giant pennies” of the Tag Team Championship, the spinner that was held by John Cena, or the ‘eco-friendly’ WWE Championship held by Daniel Bryan, fans will have differing views as to whether the title looks right, even if the look is attached to a particular star.
Very much like the spinner or the ‘eco-friendly’ championship, the fur-laden United States Championship was a reflection of the title holder. For someone like Baron Corbin, he would look a touch incongruous coming to the ring with a title covered in white fur, unless he was to suddenly undergo a metamorphosis of persona.
Sometimes, the star isn’t able to parlay their popularity into success for a themed championship. Even Bray Wyatt couldn’t make The Fiend edition of the Universal Championship work on the level that it was perhaps intended. It’ll be interesting to see if the furry championship is remembered in high regard in the years to come or whether it’s just a footnote in the United States Championship history.
