A WWE star has said that they want to be ‘the guy’ and become WWE Champion following their recent career ‘masterpiece’.

At the recent AAA Noche de los Grandes event, El Grande Americano and the Original El Grande Americano faced off in a mask vs. mask match that has been praised by both fans and those within the company as one of the best matches all year.

On the night, El Grande Americano would defeat the Original El Grande Americano, with the Original then unmasking to reveal himself as Chad Gable, who turned babyface following the loss.

In the weeks since Noche de los Grandes, Gable has been looking to make amends with former ghosts of his past, including Penta, Rey Fenix, Dragon Lee and most recently his former Alpha Academy stablemates Otis, Akira Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri.

Chad Gable Believes Mask Vs. Mask Is His Career Masterpiece

Speaking on The Hot Tag, Gable was asked about the match, with him agreeing that it is the match he is most proud of in his career.

He said that it is his ‘masterpiece’, and pitched for a documentary to be made around the storyline and match.

He said:

“For sure, for a number of reasons. Calling it a piece of art is spot on for me as a performer, that’s really the way I look at things nowadays. But yes, it’s my masterpiece so far.

“There’s so many facets to what got us to that final point that I think some day we’re gonna have to do a documentary or something. There’s so many little routes that this had to take and deviations that happened.

“You can go all the way back to me getting hurt. None of this would have ever taken place in the first place had I not gotten hurt and had to leave, and El Grande took my character and ran with it to a degree that I don’t think anyone expected him to, to his credit. Just immersed himself in this culture and endeared himself to these people to a level we haven’t seen in so long.

“Then just this idea that we developed this real competitive hate for each other throughout the story as it unfolded, we found it within ourselves to really hold something against each other. Me for him stealing what was mine, and him for hating me for coming back and claim it when he had solidified this character.

“When you can make it that important and real to you, it becomes that same way to everyone else, they feel it. It was just lightning in a bottle and something we haven’t experienced in wrestling in a long time.”

Chad Gable Wants To Be WWE Champion

Later on, Gable was asked what was next for him in his career following the match.

Gable said that he wants to win the WWE Championship and be ‘the guy’ in the company, which he knows he is capable of doing.

He said:

“I think it’s fairly clear to everybody that I’ve been this successful tag team wrestler and almost categorised as that. Tag Team Championships on every level.

“I’ve made it very clear in the past that I’m capable of more than that. I think what the mask vs. mask match did was show the world that those weren’t just words, I’m now backing them up.

“My intention going forward is to continue to do that and prove that I’m not just going to want to hold singles championships going forward. That’s a goal, but to be the guy. To hold the World Championship, to hold the WWE Championship. I’m capable of that. I know it, and I think people now know it, and the right people now know it.

“But it’s also on me to continue this momentum and carry it forward.”
