Here is what Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk did during his appearance at tonight’s NXT live event in Petersburg, Virginia.

WWE recently announced a series of NXT live events this weekend, with a very special guest announced for the August 15 show in Petersburg, Virginia.

WWE announced that Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk would be making an appearance on the show, though it was not confirmed whether or not he would be wrestling or just appearing on the show.

CM Punk Teams With NXT Tag Team Champions At Live Event

On the show tonight, we got the answer to that question, as the WWE Champion was indeed wrestling on tonight’s show.

Punk was part of a six-man tag team main event, where he teamed with NXT Tag Team Champions Tavion Heights and Myles Borne against Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes of the Vanity Project.

Punk’s team would end up picking up the win, with them putting Jackson Drake through a table and a number of babyfaces posing in the ring to close the show.

CM Punk vs. Kevin Owens: Who Should Win?

Next Friday on SmackDown, CM Punk and Kevin Owens are set for their first ever singles encounter with each other as Owens challenges Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship in Toronto.

Owens had been out of the ring for over 17 months prior to his return at SummerSlam, with his match with Punk only his second match since he last wrestled in Toronto against Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber 2025.

Owens’ return has added instant excitement to the blue brand, with an Owens victory immediately shaking up the landscape of the show.

Punk and Owens have only just begun digging deep into their 20 year legitimate hatred for one another on television, and with a feud this highly anticipated, it would be a shame for it to a one and done deal.

If WWE wants to extend the feud between Punk and Owens, they have hopefully learned from the mistakes of Owens’ feud with Cody Rhodes in 2024/2025, meaning he would win at least one match in the series.

Even if Owens doesn’t win the title, he has been absent for so long that there are a lot of other potential great matches waiting for him, they would just be even better for the WWE Championship.
