El Grande Americano WWE Championship Match Confirmed

WWE star El Grande Americano has been officially confirmed for an upcoming championship match, with the date for this match now announced.

Since his Mask vs Mask match against the Original El Grande Americano at Noche de Los Grandes in May, it has seemed like a clash between the masked star and WWE AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio was inevitable.

Following Dominik abandoning Americano during their match against Los Perros del Mal on the July 25 edition of AAA, an update emerged on this rivalry during Saturday’s (August 15) episode.

During the show, it was announced that Dominik Mysterio will defend his AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano on the second night of Triplemania 34.

Later on the show following this announcement, Mysterio and Americano engaged in a brawl, which AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio broke up.

With El Grande Americano only growing in popularity since arriving in Mexico, it would be a full-circle moment to see him lift the brand’s top title, especially with Chad Gable – the Original El Grande Americano – winning the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.

This match will headline Triplemania 34 night two, which will take place at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on September 13.

The first night of Triplemania 34 will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Nevada, USA, on September 11.

This all comes ahead of the September 14 Raw episode in Mexico City, which will see Roman Reigns defend his World Heavyweight Championship against the winner of the ongoing #1 contender’s tournament, featuring luchadores from Raw, SmackDown and AAA.

Despite announcing the tournament, Rey Mysterio will not be participating. The WWE Hall of Famer stated that he wanted to showcase younger up-and-coming stars, and he felt the best way to do that was to step aside and let them have all of the spots in the tournament lineup.

Our first semifinal bout for this tournament has been determined, with Penta set to face La Parka on the August 24 Raw episode.

Penta previously defeated Laredo Kid on the August 10 Raw episode in their first round match, while La Parka put away Psycho Clown on AAA to advance.

The final two first-round matches will both take place on Monday’s (August 17) Raw episode, with Dragon Lee facing El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jr, and Rey Fenix taking on El Fiscal.
