Former WWE Tag Team Champions To Sign With AEW

At AEW All In London, The New Level (fka The New Day) made their All Elite Wrestling debut over three months on from their WWE departure.

Austin Creed & Kofi arrive in AEW as former 10-time WWE Tag Team Champions, and them, along with fellow former WWE tag champs Motor City Machine Guns add a great deal to what is already a stacked division.

With these two signings setting up some exciting possibilities, its time to look at more former WWE Tag Team Champions who could potentially sign with AEW soon.

Isla Dawn & Kay Lee Ray

When it comes to Isla Dawn and Kay Lee Ray’s WWE careers, winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at Clash at the Castle 2024 in their home country of Scotland was certainly as good as it got.

Despite both bringing in-ring skills, a unique presentation and personality to their WWE appearances, Dawn was let go by WWE in February 2025 and Kay Lee Ray’s exit came a year later in April 2026.

While Kay Lee Ray has made appearances for Will Ospreay’s Pro Wrestling EVE promotion, she has not yet appeared on AEW TV, but Isla Dawn is certainly more than familiar with the company; so much so that fans would be forgiven for thinking that she’s already signed with Tony Khan.

Despite making over 15 appearances across AEW and ROH over the past year, Dawn is not signed to AEW, but it certainly feels like it’s matter of time before she does. While Dawn could certainly make a mark on her own, the women’s tag division in AEW would benefit much more if Khan brought both her and Kay Lee Ray aboard full-time.

Kairi Sane

Another potential strong addition to the AEW women’s locker room that we could be seeing soon is Kairi Sane.

Sane’s second stint in WWE came to an end in April when she was released from her contract – at the same time she was prevalently involved in a high profile storyline with Asuka and IYO SKY. The decision was widely criticized by WWE fans, with chants of “We Want Kairi” being heard during Asuka and SKY’s match at Backlash weeks after her exit.

Once again however, WWE’s loss could be Tony Khan’s gain, as Fightful Select have reported that Sane has held talks with AEW over joining the company.

No deal has been signed yet, so it seems as if there’s still a ways to go until we see Sane on Dynamite or Collision, but even the prospect of it happening will be enough to excite fans of the Japanese star.

Sheamus

Along with The New Level, it was reported that Sheamus was approached by WWE in regards to taking a pay cut – something he, like Austin Creed and Kofi swiftly turned down.

It remains to be seen whether ‘The Celtic Warrior’ will be following his former colleagues to All Elite Wrestling though, as he’s certainly far less of a no brainer signing for the company.

While Sheamus certainly has the name value and in-ring skills to match with the best in AEW, he is also 48 years old and has dealt with his fair share of injury issues in recent years.

What may convince Tony Khan to give him a contract however, may be the prospect of a reunion with Claudio Castagnoli. Together as The Bar, he and Sheamus stood as one of the absolute best tag teams in the world in the mid to late 2010s, and it’d certainly be fun to see them roll back the years in AEW.
