Why AEW Trademarks Team Names

While All Elite Wrestling typically doesn’t trademark its talents’ ring names like WWE does – usually because AEW stars use their already established names instead of being given new ones – it isn’t uncommon for the promotion to trademark the names of teams who are put together.

This would generally suggest the team names are ideas from Tony Khan or elsewhere in AEW creative, thus preventing the teams from possibly using the names in WWE or elsewhere in the future if they leave AEW and remain together as a team.

Another example from a while back is The Acclaimed, which was a Tony Khan idea and trademarked by AEW, as well as House of Black.
