AEW star Skye Blue has commented on criticism of the first ever women’s Blood & Guts match that took place a few months ago.

AEW’s take on WarGames, ‘Blood & Guts’ – named after a Vince McMahon quote about the promotion in 2019 – had its first ever women’s edition this past November featuring Blue, Julia Hart, Thekla, Mercedes Mone, Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir facing Kris Statlander, Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, Willow Nightingale, Harley Cameron and Jamie Hayter.

The match drew its critics, as AEW’s violent matches often do, although it seemed to be heightened on this occasion.

Speaking about why that might have been the case, Skye Blue told WrestleTalk:

“I think because it was the first ever women’s Blood & Guts, this is the first time we’re getting the opportunity to do this huge match that is supposed to be bloody, violent, two rings, you’re in a cage, there’s all these women, there’s all these weapons. So I think it’s just the first time people saw something like this.

“But I also think it’s an incredible opportunity. I have wanted this match probably ever since I started working in AEW, and I had the time of my life in that cage, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget that feeling.

“But I think it was just something that people didn’t know what to expect and now they do, so now they can be prepared. Because there will definitely be more in the future, and I hope I’m in them as well.”

Skye Blue Opens Up About Triangle Of Madness

Blue also commented on her relationship with her Triangle of Madness teammates and two of the other participants in the aforementioned Blood & Guts match, Thekla and Julia Hart.

When asked if she has her eyes on the AEW Women’s World Championship currently held by Thekla, Blue said:

“Not currently. We’re very proud of her and the fact that she has come in and kind of taken AEW by storm. Me and Julia are very happy to just be by her side and help her, because she’s definitely helped us.

“We’re just a collective little triangle, we’re just working our asses off to see where we can get to.”

“I love tagging with Julia, but I’ll always be open to doing singles stuff. I’m just happy to wrestle wherever they want me and just do what I love.”
