EXCLUSIVE – Claudio Castagnoli Addresses CM Punk Joining WWE, Adam Copeland Joining AEW & More

AEW star Claudio Castagnoli has addressed some major recent moves in wrestling, including CM Punk returning to WWE, and Adam Copeland joining AEW.

CM Punk made his return to WWE at Survivor Series in Chicago this past weekend, which set the wrestling world alight.

Punk’s return came a month after Adam Copeland (Edge) went the other way, leaving WWE to join AEW, as well as Will Ospreay being revealed as a new AEW signing, and Jade Cargill going from AEW to WWE.

In an exclusive interview with WrestleTalk, Claudio Castagnoli, who himself made the move from WWE to AEW, was asked about the ever changing landscape, including specifically Punk’s return to WWE and Copeland’s AEW debut:

Luke Owen: “It’s exciting for us as fans and obviously you’re a fan of pro-wrestling otherwise you wouldn’t be doing this – it’s like, you’ve come across (from WWE to AEW) and Danielson’s come across and Adam Copeland’s come across, but Jade Cargill’s gone across to WWE, and Punk’s gone back to WWE. Jay White’s come across from New Japan.

“As fans it’s a very, very exciting time. As talent, how do you feel about Punk being back in WWE, and Copeland coming across?”

Claudio Castagnoli: “I mean, to your point, it used to always be like, it was like fantasy booking. It was like, ‘Oh what if Bryan Danielson would wrestle Zack Sabre Jr’, right? Because that’s New Japan and that’s AEW, and then Forbidden Door happened and all of a sudden it’s like, this can really happen? There’s Okada and Adam Cole, like ‘What?!’

“Now this can actually happen, so I think for fans it’s a very exciting time.

“And then like you said, people just move from company to company, or move on or whatever, and it’s great for fans, it’s also great for the wrestlers because they can just kind of see what they need, what they feel, and it makes it all so exciting because, as you said, there’s new people to work with, there’s new people to be in the ring with. I think at the end of the day, that’s good business.”
