AEW Tag Team Disbands

AEW Tag Team Disbands AEW

Josh Woods is done with the Varsity Athletes and Mark Sterling has agreed with his reasons for wanting to end the AEW and ROH partnership.

Previously, Woods had said that “something needs to change” following his lost the Katsuyori Shibata on the August 3 episode of ROH.

In a clip shared on Ring of Honor’s Twitter account that can be seen below, Woods’ manager, Mark Sterling, spoke with his client.

After Sterling agreed with Woods’ concerns but urged him not to ditch Sterling, Woods would go on to lay down his terms revealing his ambition in the process, stating:

“I’m done with group training, I’m the best when I’m by myself.

“That’s what got me being the Ring of Honor PURE Champion and that’s what I want again.”

Seeing an opportunity for his client, Sterling stepped in with an offer, adding:

“I’m in, man. I think that’s right for you. No more group training, no more Varsity Athletes. Josh Woods, the real deal fighter.

“But to get back on that road, I think that you need some challengers because I know the one thing you like to do is fight.

“I think I’ve gotta make you some matches. Next week, we’ll get you a real man to fight. Maybe the last real man.

“Next week, we’ll get you to fight Silas Young, how about that? Good with that? Get you back on the road.”

The Varsity Athletes was the team of Woods and Tony Nese, sometimes also joined by Ari Daivari.

With the relationship between Woods and Sterling seemingly all good, it looks like the former 2 Guys 1 Tag partners will be facing each other.

Woods previously held the ROH Pure Championship for 201 days from September 12, 2021 to April 1 2022 when he would lose it to Wheeler Yuta at ROH Supercard of Honor 2022.
