AEW’s Canceled Plans For CM Punk Revealed

AEW’s Canceled Plans For CM Punk Revealed AEW

Canceled plans for CM Punk’s next feud in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) have now been revealed.

CM Punk’s most recent AEW story was intriguing, to say the least. After losing the Undisputed AEW World Championship bout to interim champ Jon Moxley in a matter of minutes, Punk went on to win the gold back in the main event of the September 4 All Out pay-per-view.

Punk’s actions outside of the ring have had people talking more however, with the star shooting on several names, including the AEW EVPs in the post-show media scrum, before allegedly having a backstage fight with The Elite moments after his appearance.

While we may have seen the last of Punk in AEW, with the two sides reportedly in talks over a contract buyout, Punk will be out of action for a while regardless, as he’s currently recovering from bicep surgery.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW had plans for Punk and MJF to feud in the main event, with more ‘classic promo battles’ planned ahead of their title bout.

Meltzer wrote:

“(Bryan) Danielson and (CM) Punk were back, and then (Kenny) Omega came back, and things did not jump back up immediately, but for Punk and Omega, they barely got their feet wet.

“The hope was to revive Punk vs. MJF, and have the classic promo battles, plus all the great undercard action. I don’t think things would have been back to September 2021 no matter what, but they also didn’t have to be at that level to thrive as a company going forward.

MJF will now challenge for Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship at Full Gear in November.
