April Mendez, formerly AJ Lee in WWE, has taken to her Instagram story to announce that she would be stepping away from WOW (Women of Wrestling) following the expiry of her season-long contract with the promotion.
Mendez joined WOW in October 2021 under an executive producer role as well as occasionally contributing to commentary.
The statement thanked WOW and its roster for welcoming her into the locker room while also leaving the door open for a potential return “to come back and play” in the promotion in the future.
The role was her first back in pro wrestling since retiring from WWE in April 2015, citing health reasons and the bad situation between her husband CM Punk and WWE at the time, stemming from his January 2014 walkout of the company.
The former three-time Divas Champion has went on to have success as an Author, writing her own memoir in 2017 titled: Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules.
Mendez’s statement on her departure from WOW was also re-posted by Punk on his own Instagram story, accompanied by the caption:
My Smart Wife
There was a major announcement regarding CM Punk’s potential plans for AEW All In from Wembley Stadium on August 27, for full details check here.
