WWE has added matches from the early careers of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Brock Lesnar to the Hidden Gems section of the WWE Network.
Styles’ match is a dark match against Rick Michaels from July 9, 2001. The match came 15 years before Styles’ WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble, and one year before his debut with Ring of Honor.
Joe’s match is a UPW Heavyweight Championship match against challenger Tommy Dreamer from April 25, 2001. UPW is the Californian independent promotion where Samoa Joe and John Cena got their start, and Joe’s title match against Dreamer was a year before his Ring of Honor debut in 2002.
The match involving Roman Reigns features Reigns wrestling under his old ring name ‘Leakee.’ The match is Leakee vs. Corey Graves from November 20, 2011, nine months before he was repackaged as Roman Reigns.
The final match uploaded to the WWE Network is an unseen WWE Championship match between Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker from a house show in Finland from October 9, 2003. Years before Lesnar would defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX and end the ‘Deadman’s legendary streak, this title match came during Lesnar’s first run with the company before leaving in 2004.
The four matches were uploaded with the theme of including the champions and challengers from SummerSlam‘s two main championship matches. The two matches being WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe and WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns.
