‘No Way’ – Backstage WWE Name Says He Is Not Close To Being In Ring Shape

WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles has commented on in-ring training, stating that he is in “no way” in ring shape.

AJ Styles retired from pro-wrestling in January, after losing to GUNTHER at Royal Rumble.

With the Phenomenal One filling in as a Performance Center coach, recent comments about him training with stars in the ring has fuelled speculation about a potential wrestling return.

Speaking on The AJ Styles Show, Styles stated that he is not close to ring shape, stating:

“No, no way. I mean, I’ll hit the ropes and stuff, and I’ll do a couple of drills, but let me tell you something, our guys in NXT can freaking go.

Commenting on training sessions at the Performance Center, Styles continued:

“We do about 45 minutes of cardio, we get after it. We do different things, the only way that you can prepare to be in a ring and do wrestling is to be in the ring and actually do it.

“We do a lot of functional ring work that consist of blow up drills, because you know in NXT, they’re moving, a lot. Those guys are in tip-top shape, I put it on them because we have to make sure they’re in good shape.

AJ Styles has also worked on several recent NXT matches as a producer. Most recently, the Phenomenal One helped with Shiloh Hill and Jackson Drake’s bout on the August 18 show, which was Hill’s first match back following his skull fracture.

Styles has also stated that he believes he will be involved with producing the NXT Championship match at Heatwave, which will see Zilla Fatu, Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana challenge for Tony D’Angelo’s gold in a four-way match.
