There was a shake up on the commentary team for tonight’s AEW Collision as a familiar voice was added to the broadcast.
Joining Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness, Tony Schiavone sat in the center and led the broadcast, with his voice opening the show.
Although Kelly and McGuinness has been the main announce team throughout the show’s short history so far, AEW Collision has featured a variety of commentators at the desk, in part due to an absence by Kelly whilst covering NJPW’s G1 Climax.
Kevin Kelly’s several-week absence in July & August was covered by Ring of Honor commentator Ian Riccaboni.
The other Ring of Honor commentator, Caprice Coleman also appeared on Collision once over the Summer, alongside Kevin Kelly on August 26 edition of the show.
Jim Ross has also been a temporary member of the commentary team for specific big matches.
With Schiavone leading the broadcast rather than just being a ‘third man’, it would appear this is intended to be a permanent change and not just him joining the team for one night, but we’ll keep you posted with any updates.
Tonight’s show kicked off with a big in-ring promo segment that included a verbal joust between Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.
They were then joined by Bryan Danielson as well as Ricky Starks and Big Bill, and finally FTR.
While there were contemptuous lines throughout, none felt more realistic than the barbs traded between Adam Copeland and Ricky Starks.
With Copeland mocking Starks for being an imitation of The Rock, he also told him ‘know your role’.
Starks fired back with a sarcastic, “Wow, that really sent me over the Edge…”.
This was followed by a big brawl which Christian Cage escaped from, as you can see below.
