Big WWE Plans Scrapped?

Big WWE Plans Scrapped?

It has been reported for a number of weeks now that Daniel Bryan is going to challenge Universal Champion Roman Reigns for his title at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view that is currently scheduled for January 31st.

However, it seems like that match may have been scrapped, as Daniel Bryan confirmed on SmackDown last night that he is going to be part of the men’s 2021 Royal Rumble match at the show next month.

The announcement came after Daniel Bryan defeated Jey Uso on last night’s brilliant Christmas Day episode of Friday Night SmackDown, and it may signal that WWE has changed direction for the Universal Championship.

However, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the current plan for Royal Rumble is still a big title match between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan, so this could also still be in the works.

WWE could always find a way to have Daniel Bryan compete in both the Universal Championship match and the Royal Rumble match during the show, but whether or not that is the plan remains to be seen.
