Brian Kendrick has requested his release from WWE, according to PWInsider.
Per the report, Kendrick, who has been working as an NXT coach and producer since 2021, has been waiting for his release for at least six weeks. He reportedly hasn’t attended TV tapings in Orlando, Florida, for some time.
In March 2021, Kendrick announced that he’d be stepping away from in-ring competition to focus on his backstage role. On the December 21 edition of NXT, Kendrick stated that he was resigning as a coach, and would make his in-ring return against Harland. On the next show however, Harland faced off against Andre Chase.
Following Toni Storm’s WWE departure, a source told Fightful that it would be difficult for WWE to justify not granting someone their release after several rounds of ‘budget cuts’, however several stars have since been waiting on releases, including Kendrick and Mustafa Ali. Reports indicate that Ali has been informed by WWE that his request will not be granted at this time.
We will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
