A WWE name has recalled pitches to bring in Oscar De La Hoya to WWE.
At WWE No Way Out 2008, world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather made his debut in the company and got into a physical confrontation with Big Show to set up their eventual showdown at WrestleMania 24.
At the time, there was rumors that WWE had discussions of bringing in fellow world champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya for the Show of Shows.
On Something to Wrestle with Bruce Pritchard podcast, WWE No Way Out 2008 was the focus of the episode with Prichard recalling pitches of Oscar De La Hoya appearing on programming. He said:
“God, you know, I can go back to the late 90s, mid to late 90s, Oscar (De La Hoya) was another one that we’d pitch all the time. Friend of the company (WWE), friend of the business and great businessman, great guy, holy s**t and it just never really worked out.”
“I don’t think Oscar really had the same passion to make that jump into the wrestling business. I think that he was like, hey man, I know my comfort area, I know my comfort zone.”
Mayweather defeated Big Show at WrestleMania 24 and eventually returned years later as a guest host on WWE Raw.
