Backstage details have emerged on the WWE departure of long-time Spanish language announcer Carlos Cabrera.
On Thursday, Lucha Libre Online reported that Cabrera had been released from his WWE contract, ending his 29 year tenure with the company.
Dave Meltzer confirmed that this was the case in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Per this report, Cabrera’s release was an age-related decision, with WWE wanting a younger name to fill Cabrera’s role.
Cabrera first joined WWE in 1993, and provided Spanish language commentary for Raw, SmackDown, NXT and pay-per-views/premium live events during his time with the company.
WrestleMania 38 is set to be the first WrestleMania without Cabrera on commentary in almost 30 years, with the beloved name calling every iteration of the Show of Shows since WrestleMania X.
