On tonight’s episode of WWE NXT, the next challenger for NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes seems to have been revealed.
After a backstage interaction gone awry earlier in the night, there was a tag team match pairing Hayes with former North American Champion Wes Lee to take on the Meta-Four pair of Noam Dar and Oro Mensah.
While Wes Lee continues to be presented as more aggressive in the face of his recent losses against Dominik Mysterio for the aforementioned North American Championship, he was ready to fight!
However his zeal for violence may have gotten the better of the team as a misplaced Kardiac Kick actually rocked Hayes instead of the intended target Noam Dar, leaving an opening for the faux Heritage Cup Champion to strike.
Noam Dar picked up the pinfall victory over Wes Lee after Melo was unable to break up the pin.
After the match, Wes Lee was shown yelling at Carmelo Hayes, demanding to know where he was in the match finish while Hayes attempted to tell him to “chill”.
As is customary when you tell a very upset person to “chill”, Wes Lee did not in fact chill, however Melo left the ring without further incident.
Despite no big bust-up, the ordeal certainly seemed to suggest that Wes Lee could be the next big challenger for Hayes’ NXT Title.
Elsewhere on tonight’s WWE NXT, Baron Corbin gives truly terrible pep talks and a tag team seems to have confirmed that they are parting ways. Click here to read more about that.
