Carmelo Hayes Addresses NXT Championship Loss At No Mercy 2023 WWE

Carmelo Hayes has shared his immediate reaction to losing his NXT Championship to Ilja Dragunov at the No Mercy Premium Live Event.

Unlike their prior encounter at The Great American Bash in July, Dragunov was finally able to fulfill his destiny and become NXT’s new figurehead, pinning Hayes after an over 20 minute back and forth encounter.

After his 182 day title reign came to an end, Hayes showed The Mad Russian respect as the two embraced after the final bell.

Taking to Twitter after the match, Hayes reflected on his time as NXT Champion and was clearly proud of what he managed to achieve during his run at the top of the brand.

Hayes tweeted:

Did what I said I was gonna do with the NXT Championship. Went out like a G. Thank you #NXTNoMercy

Earlier in the night, Hayes’ long-time friend and associate Trick Williams captured his first singles championship, winning the NXT North American Championship from Dominik Mysterio.

Unfortunately for ‘Melo and Trick, a completely happy ending with both stars walking out of Bakersfield, California as singles champions was not to be.
