CM Punk made an appearance on tonight’s WWE Raw that ended up including a reference to not only Jim Cornette, but also, Vince McMahon.
CM Punk first greeted his hometown of Chicago, addressing several different adversaries.
Specifically noting that he saw that Roman Reigns was on the Pat McAfee show, he made note that he wasn’t a daily listener of the show.
He did however say he “listens to the Experience and the Drive-Thru’,” seemingly in reference to Jim Cornette’s podcasts, then pivoting back to what Reigns said about him on McAfee’s show.
He said that he expected their paths to cross at some point, likely as Reigns was coming down and Punk was on the way up.
Summoning Drew McIntyre, he immediately appeared and the pair went back and forth on the microphone.
While McIntyre apologized for wearing his ‘Savior of WrestleMania’ shirt, he got a zinger from Punk in the middle of his bit.
As he was pulling off the first shirt to reveal yet another CM Punk themed joke shirt, CM Punk interrupted that he ‘never had to put another man’s name on my shirt to sell it’.
The pair would go on to have a contemptuous exchange where Punk continued to try and get McIntyre into the ring but instead, McIntyre sat down on the top of the commentary desk.
When McIntyre referenced previously being ‘the chosen one’, Punk was primed to not let him off the hook for dropping a Vince McMahon reference.
Interrupting, Punk asked: “Who chose you? Who chose you? What was his name? You’ve got the balls to say you’re the chosen one? Tell me, what was his name?”
Previously McIntyre had been considered ‘the chosen one’ in his early career, having been hand selected by Vince McMahon who has since departed WWE amid a multitude of sexual misconduct allegations.
Seth Rollins also appeared, and ultimately, the segment hosted the announcement that Punk will be on commentary for Rollins vs McIntyre at WrestleMania
