Cody Rhodes Addresses Ricky Starks Being Backstage At WWE Royal Rumble

Cody Rhodes has addressed AEW star Ricky Starks’ recent WWE backstage visit at the Royal Rumble premium live event.

During the January 28 show, Cody Rhodes made his in-ring return in the Royal Rumble match. Rhodes ultimately won the bout, last eliminating GUNTHER to earn a shot at Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39.

Following Rhodes’ win, security footage revealed that rising AEW star Ricky Starks was backstage at the event.

Speaking with Alex McCarthy for Inside The Ropes, Rhodes noted that he may not invite friends from ‘other places’ to visit him at WWE shows anymore, as he doesn’t want to ruffle any feathers.

Addressing the situation, Rhodes said:

“Yeah, what an idiot though, right? (laughs)

“Listen, it’s one of those things where the locker-rooms have crossover. People are married to other people from other locker-rooms, people have friends. 

“This is a kid who I started on his journey at my former home, and obviously I want to follow and see his journey, but I will say it’s probably best that none of my friends come and visit me at the shows anymore.

“We don’t need security cam footage of that. Poor (Ricky Starks), I hope he didn’t get in any trouble, I don’t think he did, he was there to support a friend who had been absolutely down and out with a (torn pectoral muscle) injury.

“Ricky was one of the guys who nursed me through it to a degree and helped remind me of who I can be. So I was happy to have him, and I had some other friends there. The other friends stayed on the bus because they’re not crazy yayhoos.

“I don’t want to cause any strife between any places, we all love the same thing. It’s the squared circle, it’s the wrestling industry, and I’ve got to remember… I always think I don’t have any rules, there are rules.”
