AEW Star Reveals What He Told Cody Rhodes After The Rock WrestleMania Segment

AEW Star Reveals What He Told Cody Rhodes After The Rock WrestleMania Segment AEW, WWE

An AEW star has revealed a text to Cody Rhodes following his controversial WrestleMania segment with The Rock on February 2.

In a moment that saw a backlash like few seen in WWE history, on the February 2 edition of SmackDown it appeared as if Cody Rhodes was set to give up his WrestleMania 40 main event spot to The Rock.

Thankfully for the #WeWantCody crusaders on social media, we ultimately ended up with Cody Rhodes challenging Roman Reigns at WrestleMania after all.

While WWE did right their apparent wrongs eventually, the initial outrage was something to behold.

However, according to a former AEW star, the fact that Rhodes was interacting with Rock on TV was a big enough moment for them, especially considering where both he and Rhodes were just a few short years ago.

Speaking in a recent interview with Boxing Scene, AEW’s Anthony Ogogo discussed how he felt witnessing his former rival interact with the biggest entertainment star in the world, as well as the text he sent to The American Nightmare after witnessing it.

Ogogo said:

“I saw Cody in the ring with The Rock the other day, I saw it on YouTube, over a 100m views or whatever and I thought…,”

Ogogo pauses, a shake of the head and he presses his lips together.

“I took a screenshot. And I just thought, ‘F**k. I was in the ring with him a couple of years ago, now he’s in with the biggest star in the world’. Everyone knows The Rock.

“I’m happy for Cody. He’s a very good professional wrestler. He’s worked hard. He’s bet on himself. I’m happy for him.

“And I text Cody and said, ‘Mate, this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time. Buzzing for you. Go get it’. That’s what I text him. And I mean that, it’s a big thing for him.”

In 2021, Ogogo and Rhodes competed in a feud which led to a big match between the two at that year’s Double or Nothing – of which Rhodes picked up the win.

To this date, it is Ogogo’s only AEW match at a pay-per-view, with the former Olympic boxer not being regularly featured on AEW TV in recent years.

Despite that however, the 35-year-old did recently re-sign with the company – and recently discussed his inactivity and future in the company – to read more on this click here.
