Cody Rhodes Competes In Extremely Rare WWE Match Type At Recent Event WWE

WWE star Cody Rhodes has competed in an extremely rare WWE match type at last night’s live event at Madison Square Garden (December 26).

While much of the focus of WWE’s Holiday Tour event from MSG was on the long-awaited WWE in-ring return of CM Punk, there was another special Christmas treat for the New York faithful packed inside the ‘world’s most famous arena.’

That being the return of the Texas Bull Rope stipulation for the grudge match between Cody Rhodes and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Despite seemingly ignoring fans’ cries to see the match type return for Cody Rhodes’ bout with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, WWE decided to finally pull the trigger and allow Cody to compete in the match his father Dusty Rhodes made famous.

This was WWE’s first Bullrope Match in well over a decade, with the last being Chavo Guerrero vs Hornswoggle from 2009, with the one before that being Dusty Rhodes take on Randy Orton at Great American Bash 2007.

While fans around the world would be disappointed to have not seen the match, footage from inside MSG has given a glimpse of the action.

This included a post from Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso who uploaded a clip of the match’s conclusion, which saw Rhodes use the rope to low-blow Nakamura before delivering a Cross-Rhodes for the win.

You can see footage of the finish down below.

As well as Nakamura vs Rhodes and CM Punk vs ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins was also in action; defending his title against Drew McIntyre.

Following his match Rollins would pay tribute to both Bray Wyatt and Brodie Lee, on what was the three-year anniversary of Lee’s passing.
