WWE Star Praised For ‘Bringing Back Babyface’

WWE Star Praised For ‘Bringing Back Babyface’ WWE

WWE Senior Vice President of Live Events ‘Road Dogg’ Brian James believes that Cody Rhodes is currently bringing back the original babyface stock character.

There are a lot of ‘shades of gray’ in wrestling today, with the lines between babyface and heels blurred in order for more complex characters to exist.

While there are many wrestlers who could be classed as anti-heroes or affable heels, there isn’t much gray in Cody Rhodes’ character, with the American Nightmare wrestling as an out-and-out good guy.

Speaking on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, Brian James noted that he believes that Cody Rhodes is ‘bringing back babyface’.

Believing that Rhodes is the ultimate hero in wrestling right now, James said:

“To me, Cody is doing the ultimate babyface right now. And he’s almost—man, I’m going to give him a lot of credit here. I am, but gosh darn it, he deserves it. He’s almost brought back babyface.

“I don’t know, man. I want the good guy to be the good guy again, and Cody has brought that back. He doesn’t cuss. His promos are good and they’re heartfelt and they bring you in. And he looks in the camera and looks in your eyes and you feel like you’re touching base with him.

“He cuts a heartfelt promo, and you go like, ‘I hope he kills that guy.’ You know what I mean? ‘I hope he murderizes him.’ He’s bringing back babyface.”

Cody Rhodes notably headlined WrestleMania 39, unsuccessfully challenging for Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.

While there was a fair amount of fan outrage following Rhodes’ WrestleMania loss, it has been heavily speculated that Rhodes will earn his way back into the title picture ahead of this year’s WrestleMania 40 event.

With the likes of The Rock and CM Punk also teasing main event rivalries on the road to WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes has now addressed all of the competition surrounding the WrestleMania 40 headline spot, which you can read more about right here.
