The currently planned replacement for announcer Kevin Patrick, who has been released by WWE, has been revealed.
Until this week, Patrick served as the lead announcer for SmackDown, having previously been the lead announcer for Raw and a backstage interviewer for Raw before that.
Patrick’s departure leaves an empty seat alongside Corey Graves at the SmackDown commentary desk, and WWE’s plan to fill that seat, at least for now, has been revealed.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:
“Michael Cole is the new announcer for SmackDown, at least for the time being. He’ll be announcing with Corey Graves.
“So they didn’t bring up anyone, they didn’t hire anyone new, for now.
“I was told specifically it’s ‘for now’, so they could be still looking, and they just wanted to get rid of Kevin Patrick I guess.
“But yeah, Michael Cole’s got the spot this weekend.”

Michael Cole is currently the lead announcer for Raw with Wade Barrett as his partner, and was already travelling to Florida for Royal Rumble this weekend, so was in the area for SmackDown.
We’ll keep you posted with any further updates.
