Dakota Kai has explained why Damage CTRL’s former leader Bayley was removed from the group.
Shortly after winning the 2024 Royal Rumble, Bayley would decide against challenging Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship and instead choose her Damage CTRL teammate IYO SKY and the WWE Women’s Title.
While the split was one many fans saw coming, what added some amount of intrigue was which side Dakota Kai would land on between Bayley and the rest of the group.
After seemingly choosing to side with Bayley and supporting her against Damage CTRL’s attacks, Kai would ultimately put the knife in her back, betraying Bayley during a tag team match with The Kabuki Warriors on the March 1 episode of WWE SmackDown.
Speaking in a new interview with 97.7 QLZ, Kai attempted to justify her and the rest of Damage CTRL’s actions against their former ‘leader’.
Kai said:
“So, I am grateful to Bayley, right? She allowed me to come back to the company, she has given both IYO and I a lot of opportunities.
“But, I think at the end of the day, if you have a parent that is a little bit too controlling of the things you do, that is how we felt. We felt like we could do a lot more without her leash on us”
“It is really weird to me that everyone is suddenly taking her side when the last couple of years she has been the ringmaster of all of the shenanigans we’ve kind of gone through.
“So, you know, that is a whole other thing. I think without Bayley in the group, we are wanting to take this to another level.”
Bayley gets the chance to get her revenge on Damage CTRL in just over two weeks at WrestleMania 40.
While not yet confirmed for a match, there has been a recent injury scare for one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships Asuka – click here for the full details.
