Current IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay has been one of the wrestling world’s MVPs in the year 2022.
Countless incredible matches across NJPW, AEW, RevPro and more, there’s no doubt that he will be someone who will attract a lot of interest if and when his NJPW contract comes due.
Ospreay signed a five year deal with NJPW back in 2019, with his contract set to come up in early 2024.
Ospreay spoke to Fightful ahead of Wrestle Kingdom 17, where he was asked about the nature of his contract, and possibilities for him once it expires.
Ospreay confirmed that he has a little over a year left on his NJPW deal, and spoke openly about his feelings regarding his future.
Ospreay said that he is being paid very well by NJPW, and that the company is still where his heart is right now.
He spoke about a 2016 offer from EVOLVE that he claims ‘could have opened a lot of doors’, but ultimately he believes working with NJPW has been the right decision for him.
In 2019, Ospreay said that he would not sign with AEW unless the company had a partnership with NJPW, which has obviously happened since that time, with Ospreay even making several appearances on Dynamite.
He finished by saying that money talks, but he has a lot of anxiety about living in the United States, and that he feels more comfortable living in the United Kingdom.
Ospreay spoke about his experiences working dates for AEW, noting that everyone there made him feel at home, and that he enjoyed it.
He is set to defend the IWGP United States Championship against AEW’s Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 17.
