Current WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion Dolph Ziggler thought he’d be fired following a famous segment on WWE Raw.
The November 2006 segment saw D-Generation X write the Spirit Squad off TV by putting them into containers and ‘shipping them off’ to OVW (WWE’s developmental territory at the time).
A Twitter user asked Ziggler if he ever thought he’d be a singles wrestler while he was in the Spirit Squad, to which he replied:
No. when dx stuffed us in a box & we were taken off tv, I assumed I was fired
Fortunately, this was not the case, and ‘Nicky’ re-emerged on the main roster as Dolph Ziggler in September 2008 and went on to have a pretty historic career.
Ziggler is currently one half of the SmackDown Tag Team Champions along with Robert Roode, and they defend their title on the April 9 SmackDown in a four-way against the Street Profits, Chad Gable & Otis, and Dominik & Rey Mysterio.
