Dominik Mysterio Makes First Title Defense On SmackDown

Dominik Mysterio Makes First Title Defense On SmackDown WWE

“Dirty” Dominik Mysterio had his first NXT North American Championship defense on tonight’s edition of WWE SmackDown (July 21).

After besting long reigning champ Wes Lee on NXT this past week, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio was on hand at WWE Smackdown where he was challenged by an unlikely foe.

Butch approached Dom during an interview segment with Kayla Braxton, challenging him to a title match.

While Dominik attempted to decline, he began to say that there wasn’t anyone from NXT there to… when Shawn Michaels also joined the frame, making the match for the NXT North American Championship official.

The match certainly wasn’t without chicanery with Rhea Ripley attempting to slip Dominik a chain however Ridge Holland ran out to interfere in the interference.

Shortly thereafter, this brought out Kit Wilson pushing Pretty Deadly partner Elton Prince in a wheelchair, shouting at Ridge Holland that they wanted an apology for Prince’s injury.

While Pretty Deadly would eventually get chased off by Ridge Holland, it would prove to be Rhea Ripley with the ultimate sneaky move to help Dominik retain his title.

With Butch on the outside of the ring ropes, Rhea Ripley attacked from behind to take him out at the knee and shove him into the ring post while Dominik feigned an injury to distract referee Jessika Carr.

Dominik would then get Butch back in the ring for the pinfall victory to retain his NXT North American Championship.
